Uncle David set off from Tung Chung (55) to Curry Republic, an Indian restaurant located at 72 Castle Peak Road, Kowloon City. It was an adventure for me as I joined Rocky on the day of Songkran Festival (Thai New Year celebration) to navigate through the festive Thai restaurants and enthusiastic water splashing experts outside the grocery stores. Luckily, we managed to reach the Indian restaurant without getting wet, maneuvering through the crowds swiftly. It was unexpected that on my first Songkran Festival experience in Castle Peak Road, instead of participating in the Thai tradition of water splashing, our goal was to introduce the iCHEF system to Jazzy, the owner of the Indian restaurant.

After settling in, we began to understand why Jazzy was interested in our system. He mentioned that their current system only provided basic functionalities, and advanced features such as QR codes and customer profiles were completely missing. He particularly appreciated the recently launched Global Payment integration, as he was excited to know that the integration fee could be waived by prepaying the two-year license fee. He mentioned that he would discuss it with his partners and get back to us. Surprisingly, a week later, he informed us that he wanted us to install iCHEF before their existing system contract ended and requested us to create their electronic menu as soon as possible.

The important moment of installing the system at Curry Republic was scheduled for 3 PM on May 1st, during the Labor Day holiday. I arrived half an hour early to greet Jazzy and engage in a conversation about Indian cuisine and cooking techniques. While thoroughly reading the beautifully printed physical menu he personally crafted, I asked Jazzy about the ingredients and spices used in some of the grilled dishes and various Indian curries. I couldn’t resist the temptation to immediately try the Tandoori vegetarian and chicken dishes, Roti flatbread, and Naan bread, which piqued my interest. The combination of different curry sauces promised a delightful and surprising experience. I still remember when our iCHEF overseas manager, Ceci, visited Hong Kong last year, we went to an Indian vegetarian restaurant together. I decided to save a meal at Curry Republic for her next visit, as she is a fan of Indian cuisine, making it a more meaningful experience!

Once Rocky and Wing arrived at the restaurant, the conversation suddenly became more serious because Jazzy had prepared many questions for us. His goal was to deeply understand the system’s operation so that he could teach his staff. We entered the electronic menu, but he wanted to know how to handle any future changes on his own. He also wanted us to assist him in quickly activating QR codes to streamline the ordering process for dine-in and takeout customers. There were many other hypothetical scenarios that he wanted to know how to handle using the system. He was truly a dedicated owner who possessed the qualities of a super user! I praised him for becoming a super user, but he humbly replied, “Not yet!”

Although Jazzy was born and raised in Hong Kong and could communicate fluently in Cantonese with a perfect accent, he expressed a preference for conversing in English with us due to unfamiliar technical terms. For readers who are looking for a comfortable dining environment to savor authentic Indian cuisine, I suggest visiting CR restaurant and meeting the young and energetic owner, Jazzy. He will undoubtedly recommend some delicious signature dishes for you to enjoy!
